Wrangell Narrows is a winding 22 mile channel between Mitkof Island and Kupreanof Island to Petersburg. The channel has been blasted and dredged. It is used primarily by fishing boats, Alaska Marine Highway Ferries and small pleasure boats. Large ships cannot use the narrow channel because of its shallow depths. There are 60 lights and buoys to mark it because of the many hazards. Lou keeps a lookout as we reach 9.3 knots on the favorable current. The chart plotter shows our path.
