May 4th Tlingit Petroglyphs in Wrangell

The petroglyphs pre-date 8000 years of Tlinglit presence in the area.
They appear to face the Stikine River and it has been suggested that perhaps they were carved to give thanks to the great schools of salmon that returned each year and supplied the tribes with huge quantities of food.

There is not a word in the Tlingit language that describes starvation. Food has always been plentiful in this rich land.
Birds and other mythical figures are carved in the rocks.
