Birds of Glacier Bay

There have been more that 240 species of birds documented in Glacier Bay.

We first noticed the "Bellows" like sound coming from high in a tree. We then saw a Blue Grouse in full courtship display puffed up to show his stuff.

I first heard their shrill high pitched call and then they meandered right by me without fear.

It appears that the male is wearing high white stockings.

This is a perfect example of a Bald Eagle's "pecking order". The little black crow will clean up the remains.

Dad swooped in with a fish in his talons, he ate until he was satisfied and then Mom got her turn. The adolescent child waits for a turn after Mom and Dad have eaten.

Dad is full and does not disturb the young eagle.

After waiting it's turn a Bald Eagle adolescent devours the leftovers.
When the feast they will fly to a perch high in a tree and regurgitate the bones

Elusive "Tufted Puffins" are such a delight to see!

A Pigeon Guillemot with his bright orange red feet flies from his icy perch.
