June 16, 2013 - Juneau to Tenakee - 60 Nautical Miles

We started passage thinking we might go to Hoona for the night but the weather and currents were in out favor so we continued south on Chatham Strait to the village lost in time:  "Tenakee Springs". When we arrived they were having a heat wave and it was actually 82 degrees.

The village is located about one quarter the way up Tenakee Inlet and at the last census take there are 104 permanent residents.

There are no cars except a pickup truck that acts as their "Fire Truck".

There is everything that one needs to live the "Real Alaskan Life".

Transportation consists of bicycles, ATV and good old fashion Walking.

This is one of the original cabins from the first White settlers.

"Snyders Mechantile" is still doing business in the original building dated "1899".

The layout is pretty much the same though the products may be a little different.

Ahh! Tenakee's claim to fame:  Tenakee Hot Springs!

Sooth your weary bones as they have for hundreds of years!

BUT DO NOT WEAR CLOTHES !

There are separate hours for men and women.  "Never the two shall meet".
(or maybe not!)
