June 12th & 13th, 2013 - Petersburg to Taku to Juneau - 118 Nautical Miles

We decide to marathon the passage from Petersburg to Juneau.  We were at the fuel dock when they opened at 7 am. We entered Frederick Sound and saw our first iceberg which originated at La Conte Glacier, the southern most Tidal Glacier.  At the 65 Nautical Mile point we pass Tracy Arm and decide to go on another 23 miles to Taku.  It is a very long day!  I decide to surprise the Captain and 1st mate with my  wonderful :

Fresh Petersburg Halibut and White Spot Prawn Pasta
In a White Wine Sauce.

We enjoy our dinner and retire after a very long 10 hour day!

In the morning Daniel and Lou work on our dirty fuel problem.  The Racor filter was changed and the assembly was drained of any foreign particles or water.  A new seal was installed and the problem was solved!

At last we are on our way to Auk Bay, Juneau.  We cannot enter Gastineau Channel to Juneau because of a bridge that crosses over to Douglas Island.   The bridge only has 50 ft of clearance at low tide and our mast is 65 ft.
We must go and additional 18 miles around the west side of Douglas Island to Auk Bay.  As we approach Auk Bay we can see the Mendenhal Glacier in the distance. When we arrive at the harbor we call the Harbormaster.  He said you are on you own."FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE"We scour the docks looking for a space. We find a short end tie and have to move a small sailboat in order to fit in. We call and rent a car, fortunately the person was in the area and within 5 minutes of my call she picked me up.  I got the last car available for the day which was a white PT Cruiser.  Our timing was perfect!

 JUNEAU AT LAST !
