07/07/07 "THE INFAMOUS TREMBLE ISLAND" IN THE NAKWAKTO RAPIDS

We passed by Tremble Island decorated with signs of boat names on 07/07/07 on Seventh Heaven which is the 7th hull. They say this island trembles when the Nakwakto reaches MAX tide. They are listed in the Guinness Book of Records as being the strongest currents of any navigable channel in the world. It is said they run 16 to 20 knots on extreme tides.
In the evening we heard that a 85ft. tug pulling a barge with logging equipment sunk when the barge over took the tug while navigating the extreme current. The 4 men aboard the tug crawled up onto the barge while the tug was sinking. All four men were rescued.
